Default Vito Sound 5 auxiliary audio

    Hi

I need an auxiliary audio input for the Sound 5 unit on my 639 Vito.

The input on the back is a proprietary plug, and what I wanted was a bog standard 3.5mm stereo socket to connect a Pure DAB tuner.

My local Mercedes dealer got me an auxiliary lead, but it had an iPod connector on it.

Can anybody tell me whether MB make a simple fly-lead, and if so what the part number is?

alternatively, is there a 3rd party product that will do the job? I got this link Comand Online Ltd :: Mercedes SatNav/COMAND :: COMAND Retrofit parts :: Current W169 A, W245 B, Sprinter, Vito, Viano :: Aux input for cars with Audio-20 or COMAND NTG2 version from another post, but am not sure if it applies to a Sound 5, or will do what I want it to.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

The sound 5 is annoyingly different.

I have seen these type of DIN connector plugs on ebay and also the sound is MONO from both sides.

I recommend that you consider getting a W169 radio 20 with or without Bluetooth. Then it will also handle your phone calls and might have a CD stacker.

Then you can use a normal AUX cable and have much better sound.

    Hi there

    Many thanks for your help.

Does this mean there is no simple way of getting a stereo aux in to the Sound 5?

I've done a search for a W169 Radio 20 - is this the Audio 20 unit that fits in an A Class? There seem to be quite a number of Audio 20s for sale on eBay for example, but they mention different vehicle models. Are they a standard fitment and would they be a direct replacement with no wiring alterations?

Sorry to bombard you with questions, but what I thought would be a simple process seems very complicated - I'm a bit lost.

    Hope you can help

    Many thanks

    Tony

    Hi there

Think it was registered in October 2006. Not sure how to find the month of manufacture. When I bought it in 2008, the dealer put a brand new Sound 5 unit in.

    Vehicle details are:
VEHICLE MERCEDES, VITO 111 CDI XLONG, PANEL VAN
    YEAR 2006-10-31
    ENGINE 2148
    FUEL DIESEL
    GEARBOX MANUAL 6 GEARS
    COLOUR RED

    Thanks again for your help.

I think that was a year when they had the same options as A-Class W169.

I never heard of Audio 5 in D2B. So I imagine you have a possible choice to install Audio 20 or COMAND GPS.

There are two types. One with bluetooth and one older type without in both the Audio 20 and COMAND.

It really comes to budget and personal choice.

If you will continue in the Audio 5 direction it will just annoy you.

Thanks - I am now convinced about the futility of the Sound 5.

I'm going to go for an audio 20 with bluetooth.

But i'm afraid that means more questions!
    Is the "comand" a satnav?
And will an audio 20 plug straight into the wiring loom with no mods?

Sorry to bombard you, but I'm a complete novice in this area.

    You need the following parts

    - Adapter harness from old to new connectors (W203 part number)
    - Radio or COMAND with bluetooth
    - AUX cable

If you want to have diagnostic conversation with the radio in workshop then also
    - CGW harness
    - CGW

If you want GPS then all above and also
    - GPS antenna

    COMAND = GPS

I have a Bluetooth radio with CD stacker in mint condition for sale

You will need an installer to fit it.

    Hi there
Many thanks for this useful information.
How much would you want for the radio?
