Thread: Comand NTG 2.5 telephone ring tone

Hi Folks

I've recently fitted the NTG 2.5 to my E Class (08). Incoming calls are only announced by the screen window. There is no ring tone. The pairing was done as per instructions, and the transmit recieve volumes were not changed. Am I missing a trick, or doesn't Comand play the phone ring tone. Many Thanks . Keith

Pretty sure the ring tone is sent from the phone, so either the phone isnt sending it (I cant remember what happens if the phone is on silent), or you need a firmware update on the NTG2.5 unit

Do try pairing someone elses phone and seeing if that works

Thanks for the prompy reply. There is no ring tone either when the phone is on silent or otherwise. There is no ring tone with any other phone either. If the fix requires a firmware update, I have a few other questions:

i) Does this mean a visit to a Main Dealer and what is the likely cost ?(this unit is not Main Dealer supplied and fitted). My nearest Main Dealer lead me to believe that it was not possible to have sat nav in my car anyway ! (originally Audio 20 only)
ii) Can the update be done through the local Independant's STAR (he fitted the unit and mapped it to the instrument display)
iii) The unit is dated 2008 and was sold with 2010 maps. If this reflects a particular firmware standard, I'm wondering what other facilities a firmware update might bring. This would be relevant to me if there is a cost associated with the update.

This needs a maintained 'star diagnosis' system to do updates - this is because you get the firmware update disk with the monthly star diagnosis updates

Its about an hour to do, however after the firmware update the 'coding' sequence will fail as the system can't generate the coding sequence because it doesnt beleive NTG2.5 can be in a pre-MY09 car

This *could* mean you lose the front/rear fade option, unless your local independant is good with Star (in developer mode) and can put it back

I'm in Yeovil in Somerset but would be happy to travel a reasonable distance to anyone you could recommend. If STAR doesn't believe NTG 2.5 can exist in pre 09 vehicles, is this something the main Dealer would deal with. In any case, I don't fancy a £100 bill (probably more now). Any advice on a sensible way forward would be appreciated. Thanks . Keith
