    Question HELP - Comand NTG2 Sat Nav Disc - A Class 2005

    Hello,
I have a Mercedes A Class 2005 (new shape) which came with a factory fitted COMAND system (in head unit and not boot) and 6 disc CD changer in front too. The car came with version 4 navigation DVD, and I have just purchased version 11 navigation DVD (2009/2010). The disc does not work and says "updating" when I put it in the slot and the voice tells me it needs a DVD put in, but after a couple of hours it hasn't done anything, and I just eject the DVD.

Does this mean that I need to update the firmware/software of the comand system? Can anyone shed any light on this please?

Maybe you need to load the maps you missed out. some of the maps between 4 and 9 have special loading software.

You only need to load it once and never again.

Is the disk a genuine one? Did it come from a reputable source or is a cheap copy from a pirate?

Frequently cheap copied/fake/illegal disks cause all sorts of problems when trying to load up. In some cases we have seen them turn a navigation device into a useless brick!

Just to expand on Benzmodz's answer, assuming you are using a genuine disk, i'd try a V6.x first, and if that doesnt help a V8 next

BUT. always use genuine disks - the disk has the navigation software on it aswell as the map, so during the update it re-programs the navigation processor and you don't want that going wrong.

    Hello, thanks for your response.
A version 8 disc has been used to upgrade but still the version 11 disc purchased does not work. Can see map some of the time, but can't tap in addresses or POI and the voice keeps asking me to insert disc.
How can i establish if the disc purchased is genuine?

Have a look at the shiny surface of the disk, it should be silvery and look like any other pre-purchased movie DVD. If it is colourful its probably a copied disk

Going from V8 to current should not require any more intermediate steps
