Thread: Retrofit COMAND 2.5 int ML with HK sound system

Hi All,

I've just ordered a COMAND 2.5 unit for my 2008 ML 280. The vehicle has the "Vision pack" which contains a Harman Kardon sound upgrade. I've read various reports that I need an HK amp and subwoofer amp to do the NTG 2.5 upgrade which seems strange as the vehilce already has an HK amp and subwoofer. Can anyone shed any light on this? I assumed it was a straight swap out with some retrofit cables I have ordered from Comandonline in the UK. I don't see why I would need to buy something I supposedly already have!

Any advice is appreciated.

This year model is on the cusp of the changeover. It might just work or it might be a little more challenging.

Its a 2008/03 ML. What would I need to do if it were before the 2009/03 COMAND 2.5 unit?

The NTG 2.5 and NTG 2 MOST components are different. This is why you need new parts.

It depends on the revision of the firmware inside the AMP. At the changeover time some of the amps worked.

Thanks. Is the amp firmware upgradable? How can I check which firmware I have? I assume the 810 Sound System on my vehicles data card means the Harman Kardon Logic 7 system - the main reason for this post. It does have Harman Kardon on the grilles on the fron speakers.
