Thread: Comand (MCS-II) Software/firmware updates?

I just finished putting an '05 MCS-II DVD nav unit (pn A2038701189) into my '07 C230.

I got it working (after dealing with a GPS antenna wire with multiple internal breaks), but it doesn't have the "compass" mode soft button, and it seems to have a problem with MP3 disks.

I've read both of these issues may have been solved with software/firmware updates. I went to the dealer yesterday and they said they couldn't sell me update disks, but that updates have to be performed by the dealer (because of PIN number issues or some such).

Can anyone tell me if this is really the case?

If it is, why have I run across "update disk" part numbers? Are these for the older (pre-facelift) W203 nav? Or are they for the Euro APS system?

Not all headunits are the same. The problem they refer to is that in many instances one needs a diagnostic to force the headunit into update mode or to know the keypad sequence for forcing the update.

You should be able to ask a qualified independent workshop to buy the discs for you.
