Question Amg cluster fitted to sl500 r230

    Hi Guys,
    I have a rather interesting problem with a Merc R230 sl500.
I have changed the instrument cluster for a used AMG cluster.
The problem is that most things appear to work fine except when connected to Star(das) I cannot connect to the cluster and therfore cannot carry out any coding. Also things like the ocp and lcp say the instrument cluster is not transmitting on the can line, which I find strange because the cluster is talking to comand and other items. The vehicle is 2004 year. Any light shed on this would be great.
    Thanks

The early SL had a different diagnostic gateway to the later ones (by MY2004 it had a CGW rather than a diagnostic gateway) and I wonder whether that is part of the issue.

What is the part number of the cluster ?

And is the car a model year 04 or 05 (04 had the COMAND 2.0 CD based version, 05 had the NTG1 DVD based system) ? I know you said its 2004 but the model year switches over in the middle of the calendar year

    Thanks for the reply.
The vehicle is early 2004 before the change to the most system.
It does have a cgw control module.
As for the part number I will find out and post later.
Further information to this is that on the vehicle plug for the cluster I suspect pin 11 (pink wire to pin 15 diagnostic socket is not present where it is in the vehicle I removed the cluster from) Hope this helps
    Thanks
Part number of AMG cluster is A2305404511

Used clusters are locked to the VIN of the previous car. Therefore it will also show the odometer as -------- instead of distance.

I recommend you purchase a new one.

Also, I think that cluster is doing diagnostics over CAN rather than diagnostics over K line

It maybe that something in the CGW can be configure for that, but more likely Star Diagnosis knows enough about what should be in your vehicle that it is trying to do diagnosis over K line and never attempting it via the CGW (i.e over CAN)

According to EPCnet that cluster part number is not an AMG cluster, and was in the SL350/SL500

All used clusters are locked to the previous car.

That is what happens on used clusters.
