    Default Interior Ambient lighting retrofit

Hi. I have just bought a new CLS (my first MB). Very nice it is too. I got a deal on a showroom model and it has pretty much everything I wanted, except the ambient interior lighting option.

I have asked my dealer and MB Uk whether this can be supplied as an after-market retrofit and the answer is no, it isn't possible. I can understand this as it is a factory option only, but is it really not possible to find some kind of work-around?

So just wondering whether wIth a bit of determination and some deep pockets this, or something like it, could be achieved. A very helpful looking forum - any advice much appreciated

Did you want footwell lighting which is one wiring harness that runs all over the floor or did you want ceiling lamps ?

    Those are alternative overhead panels.

Hi. No, this is the lighting that sits behind the dash and door panel trims. Not sure how recent this is, but it looks really good.

That's right- the light glows from an aperture under the panel. All enquiries here say not possible, or if feasable would cost several thousand pounds to install wiring, looms etc. shame that, as it's only a £290 option if factory ordered. So I suspect I've reached a dead end. Wondering if I could do something with the footwell lights though?

As I said you need a floor harness and some lights.

If you want the doors to glow then replace the wiring loom on the door and drill a small hole the for the LED.

Is this a W218, where the actual trim along the dash has an optical section in so glows from below it ? That is option 877 and would probably need a the dash trim (and probably lots of other trim if the doors do this) replaced too, although the actual optic fibre bit is available seperately so it may be possible to attach it to existing trim

Saw a W212 with this the other day (orange coloured), its rather nice.

If you are near lighwater in Surrey UK, I'd suggest a visit to Alfie

PS, looking at EPC I thnk the cockpit cable harness always has the wiring for the ambient lighting option, so this may not be too dificult but is probably expensive.

Thanks Richard. if the new CLS is a w218 then yes - That's the car. The light seems to glow from the bottom of the trim panels, in this case piano black, and if they need replacing I'm assuming would be very expensive.
I am near lightwater as it happens. But who is Alfie??
