Thread: W211 command not reading

Hi,,can someone plz help,,last year i orderd a version 10 disc from ebay,,which i shouldnt ,,the car had version 4.1 disc (real),,so wen i put the version 10 (copy) in it loaded fine,,but after couple runs,,wen i input an adddress it say ( reading disc plz wait)),,and the message will stay like that ,,like its frozen,,but funnly the clusters sat nav will work with the voice ,,it will still direct u through the arrows and voice in the clusters ,,but on the sat nav screen it will still say reading disc,,,,,,
i thought it was just the copy disc so i went to mercdes to buy the genuine version 10 but it still happens,,,freeze at the message reading disc please wait,

i dont know wat to do now,,do u think the copyed disc has mess up my command??

I think you are supposed to install some of the older discs in sequence so that the navigation drive can update itself. When you skip such a huge number then it can be software related.

There are also updates for the COMAND.

We have had cases of COMAND and Navigation processors getting very hot when using copied disks. We suspect it is because R/W disks are harder to read than bulk-produced disks (they reflect the laser less well) and so there are more read errors and thus the drive is spinning more than it would otherwise and generating heat in an environment that isn't vented that well.

I would go and get the latest disk (which is Version 12) for E class, and disconnect the power from the navigation drive for 10 mins, power it back up and insert the disk.

There were particular problems going from V3/V4 to V7 or V8 (europe), but after that Mercedes seem to have put firmware that upgrades properly on the disk, so i'd expect V10 to be fine, but if the firmware had loaded badly because its a copy then anything could happen. By going forward to V12 it will install firmware again from the new disk and thus fix any bad firmware load.

It could of course be that the navigation drive laser is just failing !

hi,,just got the version 12 disc for the car from merc this morning,,guess wat it still does the same,,freezzes on the READING DISC PLZ WAIT,,

,but wat i dont understand is why does the sat nav on the speedo still give out the arrow direction works and voice dirction works,,while the command freezes with the messages READING DISC PLZ WAIT,,??

WAT I MENT IS HALF WORKS AND THE OTHER DONT?

Hi,,just forgot to tell you that this problem doesnt happen all the time,,but it will happen ONCE in 6-7 times use of the sat anv

And the only way to clear the frozen screen ,is to turn the car of for 5-8 sec ,then it will work again or go to the boot and eject the nav disc and put it back in will clear the syomtoms until next time

RICHARD do u think it is the nav drive LAZER problem related or soft ware,,??
