    Default W210 E320 1998 Japanese Import Radio

I am a new member. I have a 1998 E320 which is Japanese spec and recently imported to the UK. It has the MB CNS System (MB number A210 820 15 89, model no BO 2108, and Bosch number 7 608 703 001). I know I can't get the Sat Nav or TV to work in the UK. All I'm trying to do is fit an FM frequency converter into the FM antenna cable so that I can receive most of the UK FM stations instead of the few I can now receive on the Japanese frequency range. I removed the Display and Control unit (which also incorporates the climate control) but there is nothing that looks like a normal FM antenna plug. At the rear of the unit there are five plugs and two spare large 5-pin round sockets. Two of the five plugs are large and round (an 8-pin and a 7 pin) - one may be from the 10 CD changer in the boot? Two of the five plugs are rectangular (20 pin and 16 pin) which look like power and speaker connections. The remaining plug is a small 3-pin rectangular one with green/blue, brown and red wires. I've read on some forums that there is an antenna amplifier located behind the right hand C-pillar - this I understand is connected the the antenna in the rear window. Could I somehow fit the in-line FM radio frequency converter near the amplifier? Or is there a way to connect it behind the Head Unit if I knew which is the antenna cable there? I'd much appreciate any help! I'll try attaching a pic of the head unit.

For starters the amplifiers in the rear window dont even work in UK frequencies.

When i did the full conversion we instsalled the cockpit harness, the comand harness and rear glass amplifiers. Then also a Euro / UK COMAND and new frame with wood.

On further investigation I located the radio unit (together with the sat nav unit, the TV unit, the CD changer unit, and the phone unit) in the boot behind the lining on the LHS. I simply inserted a radio frequency shifter into the FM antenna lead before it plugs into the radio. I have not touched the antenna amplifier. My radio now works perfectly and receives all the UK FM stations in my area. The frequency shifter I fitted is a dual one (from www.merlinproductions.co.uk) which reduces the frequencies of the UK FM signals by 12 and 24MHz thus giving coverage of the entire UK FM waveband but receivable on the Japanese FM band. A very simple solution - this shifter cost only about £12 and it is one of the more expensive ones! A more common cheaper shifter is the 18MHz shifter but in my case it does not cover one of my local stations on 93.4MHz. Ian.
