Default Audio20 NTG2.5 upgrade to Comand APS NTG2.5

    Hi there,

I am considering seriously to upgrade my Audio20 NTG2.5 to Comand APS NTG2.5. After searching for relevant information here I learnt quite a lot from people who upgraded from older Audio20/Comand to NTG2.5, but I am still a bit unsure about my case (Audio20 NTG2.5 came original with car, cluster & steering wheel control for radio/CD/bluetooth phone already enabled) if I simply retrofit a Comand APS NTG2.5 with GPS antenna and reverse camera (both after market ones):

    1. Assuming the Comand is coded correctly for my region, will it work in a plug-n-play fashion if I don't care about cluster display and steering wheel control?
    2. Will cluster & steering control for radio/CD/bluetooth phone work automatically?
    3. Will cluster & steering wheel button control for DVD/navigation work without SCN re-coding the cluster/steering wheel?
    4. Is there a chance to get everything to work without involving a big dealer with Star on-line?

Many thanks in advance. My car is MY2009 V251 R-class by the way.

You can't make all these assumptions. You have to see what happens when you finish.

    Thanks for yoru reply.

My situation is that some workshop offered their Comand unit (proper refurbished ones from Germany I suppose) and claimed that they will code it properly with local maps etc. But they said for MY2009 R-class they can't make navigation work in cluster, yet they said other functions will work in cluster. Makes me wonder if they actually plan to SCN code the cluster.

Then on the other hand, I will have access to a set of Star soon, so want to know if the navigation in cluster can actually be done, before I spend on the Comand (most probably from one of these workshops as don't want to trigger anti-theft if buy from e-bay, and look for map myself).

If you can afford a Mercedes you can afford a visit to a proper workshop with SCN.

Yes that is true I should, I am very happy with my dealer in Sydney, but for my other car in HK, I had very bad experience with the one and only dealer there...
