    Arrow Retrofitting a c63 amg limited slip differential to a w204 non-AMG

    Is it possible to retrofit a c63 amg limited slip differential to a w204 non-AMG? (c350, c300, c280 c250, c230 c200, c180 etc).

    Any ideas?

I am asking because I was offered one very cheaply.

It will fit mechanically but you need to update the software in the transmission controller and engine module.

This is because you may be altering the gear ratio of the differential and this may upset the ESP and put the car in limp mode.

Thanks for the reply! Do you mean just to update to the latest software for the modules or to custom program? Do you think it is worthwhile and if you were in my case would you retrofit it to your car if you had sourced a very cheap LSD AMG differential?

I am also thinking to retrofit at a later stage a facelift w204 7g auto gearbox instead of my 5g when I find one at a decent price. So would it be logical to just buy the cheap differential, wait and do both together?

Thank you in advance for your time to respond.

You need to determine the stress on the gearbox for the engine you have.

There are 4 types of 5-speed and 3 types of 7-speed. You will notice that option code 030 is only sold with 5-speed cars.

The engine and transmission modules need to be SCN recoded so that the new gear ratio doesnt upset the ABS/ESP. Otherwise you would be unable to control the braking system with LSD and you wont be able to go faster than 30 km/h.

Unless your engine is similar to the performance of C63, such as 350CDI or CLK500 type car I wouldnt even bother. The installation is simple but you need a whole new rear subframe to hold the LSD in place.

Check EPC and look at how many parts are designated only for option code 030. This includes the drive shaft also.
