Default 2007 CLS & iPhone 4 Issue - Call Not Possible

I have a 2007 CLS that I was happily using an old Blackberry in when the company upgraded me to an iPhone 4, so I swapped out the BB cradle for the iPhone 4 cradle.

As with my BB previously, when the phone initially connects it complains that the address book is full. Whilst I can then receive calls through COMMAND, if I select a name/number and try to place a call I get the message 'Call not possible'. Even if you manually dial a number you get the same message. You can however dial or select a contact on the iPhone itself and place the call and it is picked up by the car.

Spent two hour in the local dealership yesterday trying to work out why this happens and the only answer was due to the number of contacts. They've gone back to MB with it as they're only answer is that it's too many contacts!

I've since reduced the number of contacts down to under 400 (c. 700 numbers) and the telephone book now loads without a warning, but the issue still exists.

I've just gone through and deleted a few more contacts and all FAX numbers (why the hell do they load them!!!!!) so I have somewhere under 370 contacts and 600 numbers, to try out later, but this is rediculous!

iPhone is on 4.3.2 (same with 4.3.1) and apparently the cradle is the latest software. The COMMAND system isn't, but the dealership wasn't keen on upgrading it as it would take 4 hours.

Any thoughts on this gratefully received!!!

The dealership has no choice but to do all that is humanly possible. I would reset the COMAND and load up the information again.

Why do you need a fax number in a phone ? Do you still use faxes ?

Why dont you write a letter to Apple and ask them to place a submenu in the contact Sync and select whether or not you synce fax numbers in iTunes.

The fax numbers were a hang up from the good old days, but they've all been deleted now.

Having said that, when I was using a Blackberry, the fax numbers were all there, but weren't imported when connected to the car.

Just as an update, this is still with MB.

I've dropped down my number of contacts to 115 (c. 230 phone numbers) and it still doesn't work, nor has a reset of the COMMAND system as suggested.

MB have stated it should support 650 phone numbers

Look into the newer iPhone firmware if you have not done so already. I think this moment it runs 4.3.2 if not anything newer.

Found a work around for this.

Before I urn on the ignition/start the car I turn off bluetooth on my iPhone. Once the car is started I turn it back on and it pairs. I can then make calls from the car!

MB still don't know why I have this problem or admit to seeing it elsewhere.

When I was in a W204 I had the problem that iPhone profiles would hang if a Samsung Profile was used in the same headunit.

I notice that there are now even more updates for the iPhone firmware.
