    Default Retrofit of COMAND 2.0 into a 2000 CL500 (W215)

    Hi,

I've recently fitted a COMAND 2.0 widescreen (MOPF) unit to my CL500, on the whole so far a successful conversion except for a few detials I need to ask about. Here are some details:

Previously fitted was the COMAND 2.5 connected via D2B to:

    CD changer (6 disc)
    BOSE sound system
    TV
    Nokia factory fitted telephone
    Linguatronic

Due to my console having the optional Distronic buttons fitted it has been a no go to purchase a new MOPF wood console or even to find a used example worldwide, even then I would need the later design row of dash switches. I have therefore customised my existing console to fit the MOPF COMAND 2.0, it was a lot of work but worth the effort.

Electronics-wise all the D2B components have integrated OK with the new COMAND 2.0 and all the WAKEUP system is working as it should.

    The current issues are:

    1. I cannot get the navigation to work, a message is displayed saying "There is an error and navigation cannot be started". I also get the error code B1762 - CANBUS fault with navigation processor.

After reading many threads on the subject I have added a CANBUS adapter on the CAN-B to hopefully supply a speed pulse and reverse signal to pin 6 and 15? of connector C2. No go so far.

    2. The text in cluster display is offset to the left - I have read that a STAR diagnostics session can interogate these settings and rset them to a central position.

    3. The TV is still 4:3 and not widescreen, another STAR enabled setting?

The configuration menu in the service screen is locked so I cannot set anything myself. Can I get a STAR session to unlock this menu and is it possible to have TV in motion or do I need a piece of 3rd party hardware to achieve this?

    Many thanks,
    Simon.

When I was doing these conversions the only way to do it was to remove all of the old wiring and install the new wiring. Then it fitted together as it should.

I have no idea what changes you have made so it would be necessary for me to know more information.

    Hi,

    The unit I have used is the A220 820 58 89, the unit was marked "2004 S350"

I have re-populated the A, C1 and C2 connectors of the COMAND 2.5 wiring to contain the COMAND 2.0 pins exactly as below...

    Comand A connector:

    1 -
    2 -
    3 diagnostics
    4 +12 v
5 +12v switched out to aerial
    6 -
    7 -
    8 Ground

    Comand C1 connector:

    1 RGB-Video Red
    2 RGB-Video Green
    3 RGB-Video Blue
    4 RGB-Video Gnd
    5 -
    6 -
    7 RGB V-Sync
    8 RGB Shield

    Comand C2 connector:

    1 -
    2 TV-Audio Right
    3 TV-Audio Green
    4 Aux-Audio Right
    5 Aux-Audio Ground
    6 -/Speed Signal (from CANBUS adapter) ???
    7 CAN-B Shield
    8 CAN-B LO (to CANBUS adpater ?)
    9 CAN-B HI (to CANBUS adapter ?)
    10 D2B Wakeup
    11 TV-Audio Left
    12 TV-Audio shield
    13 Aux-Audio Left
    14 Aux-Audio Shield
    15 -/Reversing signal (from CANBUS adapter) ???
    16 RB-CAN Shield
    17 RB-CAN LO
    18 RB-CAN HI

Looking at the wiring schematics for year 2003 CL500 there is no direct speed pulse wire for the COMAND 2.0, it would seem that they use the CANBUS for this but one person on the net claims a CANBUS adapter is required to get this and then taken to pin 6 as it would be in a ML/CLK application.

    C1 - 5 and 6 are the CD stacker.

    A - Pin 2 is diagnostics, 3 is mute

    C2 - Pins 4, 13, 5, 14 are ipod / MP3 input.
Pins 7 and 8 not connected

Wiring, is all correct, still got the "...an error has occurred" with fault code B-1762.

However, driving home from work the other evening I pressed the NAV button and it worked! The diagnotics Info screen was displaying speed and direction and the Nav processor was picking up 8 satellites, great I thought!
But...next morning....nothing, same fault had returned, no navigation. Not sure if there is interference on the CANBUS wires causing this problem.

Are there common causes for the B1762 code? it seems it's quite common from reading all the interenet posts on COMAND retrofits.

Mmmm, sat nav only works when the car is warm, either been left in sunlight or warmed up by heat from the engine. I did find on the net somewhere that this could be caused by a faulty gyro unit. Can anyone help?
