Default "insert navigation DVD" 2004 S430

I recently purchased a 2004 S430 and tried to insert an updated navigation DVD. The screen said "software loading," then said that no DVD was inserted. I have tried repeatedly to insert the new DVD and the old DVD (which had been working), but only get a message that no DVD has been inserted. (Or I get the "software loading" screen, which displays no progress no matter how long it is left on.)

In searching, I keep seeing the following instructions, on many different sites, to download a software update from a site called "Torrent":
    ---------------------------------

    Mercedes Software Service Update ECE/USA for Navigation Unit - 211 589 15 22 00

    For Models: 171, 211, 215, 219, 220, 230, 240 with code 527, 530

This is NOT a map disc. This DVD is used to update the Navigation Processor.

Unzip the archive and use the ISO file to create a DVD.

How do you know if you need this update? Here is a description of the problem:

After the new navigation DVD (map) is inserted, the COMAND display shows "NO DVD available, please insert navigation DVD.".

Note: This problem occurs in the case of navigation processors with:

    - SW09/04 USA (2004.2) or older software
    - SW 07/04 ECE (3.0) or older software

    Update process:

    - Activate COMAND by switching on the ignition and then press the NAV button.
    - Eject the navigation DVD (map) from the navigation processor (trunk).
    - Insert the service DVD. The update starts automatically.
    - The update is completed after approx. 2 minutes. The COMAND unit will restart.
    - Remove the service DVD and insert the new navigation DVD (map) into the navigation processor. The map update starts automatically. Please wait until the COMAND unit restarts.
    - Switch off the ignition, remove the ignition key, lock the vehicle and wait until the instrument panel switched off (bus idle).
    - Activate COMAND by switching on the ignition and check the navigation functions.

Torrent is a distributed download service that allows you do download (mostly illegal) copies of disks. You need to install a 'Torrent' client on your PC..

That update is meant to be included in later versions of the map disk. There was one release of map disk that they forgot to put new firmware on, so if your navigation processor had old firmware it wouldn't work with the new map)

That was about 3 years ago though, and certainly the issue doesn't occur on later European map releases.

Where are you and what DVD are you installing ?

Thanks -- I think the answer is that if you have an old enough car (2004 s430, for example) and haven't updated the map disk, and then try to use the 2010 map disk, you first have to update the nav software. There is a Mercedes software update, and it seems to be available on those illegal download sites, but I also have read that if you use one of those downloads, you lose certain functionality, so you really have to have a dealer install the upgrade (which I'm hoping will be quick and easy).
