Default Wheel changing tip for the fussy - rim protection

Whilst changing a tyre recently I noticed that the cut-outs in the alloy wheels that house the wheel-studs are scratched from the repeated use of wheel-braces/spanners.
I used some heatshrink tube around the outside of the appropriate end of my spider wheelbrace to stop this happening again, at least with MY tools.
A couple of turns of tape would probably do the same.
