Default Retro fit Viano with the new NTG2.5 Can it be done by a novice?

Hi there just bought a viano 2009/59 plate in the uk. It Has NOT got Sat Nav comand.
Looking at ebay there are ntg2.5 available with gps antennae and there is the old version. The old one is in every pic on Mercs website for Vianos with sat nav. However the ntg2.5 seller insists that his will go in a viano. His I like better as it plays dvd films and has bluetooth function over the old model.

& people have purchased from him for a viano I assume and am awaiting theyre feedback of how easy it was. One said no extras needed went in and works fine!! waiting on more replies.

Seller says it needs nowt else to work just whip out the old one and in with the new? what do you guys think. Will it fit without any facia panels needed. His one go'es in the B class as per merc website pics but looks like in that vehcile it sits under a lip of dash?
anyway throw in any info will ya? many thanks

If I can sort out anyones golf swing I will LOL

Allow me to assume you have none of these options

- no UHI
- no Harmon Kardon
- no CD stacker

Then in the first place the installation will be simple. However, there are some considerations.

- If you want phone (but did not have it before) then you must look into a new wiring for the new mirror with microphones.

- If you want to play DVD for the rear seated person then it would work very well. If you want the front passenger to watch DVD then you lose all possible GPS functions with the "chip" sold on eBay.

- If you want to later add UCI (Media interface to NTG2.5) then you must also be able to code this new unit and that requires a slightly complicated central gateway installation

- If you want to control the unit from a diagnostic station then it MUST have a central gateway.

Still we do not know which airbag / buttons / cluster you have in your car. We can only hope it is the better version with information display and controls.

These sellers are not installers ... so what works for them is not what works for a technician. To a technician it must operate exactly as it does in diagnostic mode from factory and not just make noise inside the car.

What does your Viano have in there at the moment.

If it is the Audio-20 with bluetooth built in (i.e MY2010 viano with Audio 20) then its a straight swop, although if you want AM you will need an antenna splitter.

If is an Audio-5 or the older Audio-20 you'll need some converter looms -

speak to sales@comandonline.co.uk who will sort you out the right parts.

In any case, the new style unit (from an A or B class) will go in

Thanks chaps!
It audio 20 in vehicle at present if that helps.

Also/ An ebayer who purchased an ntg2.5 wrote to me and said it fits and included a pic of his. No extra facia trim needed. another said it needed nothing else and he put it in ok.

They all left super pos feedback for the guy so assuming it went in ok.

Re: previous reply about dvd not working for the front, loosing gps?? Can you elaborate?

So from what I can gather, it will fit, it may work bluetooth only for my phone but would need microphone set up or something?
and dvd will work in the front (as thats the only place there is a screen)
but while its on the gps wont work? am I getting this right!
if so then the dvd wont normally play whilst car is moving and thus using not using gps at said time.
have I got any of this right ?? people who claim to have put it easily will have some basic function of gps and dvd (poss bluetooth) but not perfectly installed as would be required by a Merc / expert tech.
YES?

NTG 2.5 has a bypass which enables video in the front seat. When this is installed it totally disables GPS operation while the movie function is being used.

After some more thought, I imagine the Viano comes with a CGW from factory. The twin called Vito doesn't.
