Default Replacing factory tow/hitch electric connector

Hi,

I would like to replace the existing trailer tow/hitch electrical connector on my W163 ML55 2004. The reason is that South Africa uses a different standard. The pin outs is fairly easy but there is a micro switch located on connector which the new connector doesnt have, does anyone know what this switch does? Like disable the Park distance control or change the Gearbox settings or something?

I'm reasonably sure that it tells the bulb failure circuit there is a different loading of bulbs. I'll leave it for one of the others to comment whether it disables rear PDC also.

The same applies in BMWs and others, so I would suspect that you can find whatever shape trailer connector is used in South Africa (SABS ?) with a microswitch.

If you don't want to hack up the existing wiring. There is a wiring junction point behind the left hand air vent (behind the bumper, you will see the left hand airvent when you remove the bumper) - but be careful unclipping the airvent as you'll break it.
