Default No Phone

Hi guys
i have a 2004 w211 e320, with Comand and pre wired phone in centre armrest.
my problem is this:
the phone no longer works in comand
it is a nokia 6310, i have replaced this phone with a borrowed one and i still get the same message on comand, No phone.
if you disconect the nokia phone module from the live feed and wait a few minutes, then plug it back in, then turn the ignition on, the comand see's the phone and you can make and recieve calls, if however you turn the ignition off, and back on again, the phone isnt showing.
im tempted to think it is either the phone module or the audio gateway that is at fault ( though i have took it to a indie, he couldnt find the fault, as he had no spare phone, which i now have, so it not the phone, he also flashed the audio gateway with upto date software), and not the cradle or lead, as if these were faulty then it wouldnt pick the phone up after the disconnection.

i really dont want to go back to the indie just yet, as he quoted at least 3 hours work to find the fault, at £55ph,which he couldnt find the first time round.
any ideas chaps ?

- cradle
- phone (firmware revision)
- module

Could be any of those.

thanks for the quick respose, its not the phones, my orginal one which has been in the car for the past 4 years, has a different firmware to the borrowed phone, and both work when you disconnect then reconnect the live feed to the phone module.
phone module, fair enough.
phone cradle, how would i check this ?, the curly wire goes into the armrest, so i need to dissmantle the armrest to track down a connector ?
so how do i dissmantle the armrest, i cant see any screws

Lift up the armrest and look under it. I think its either a T15 or a T10.

The cradle is most likely broken.

just had a quick look on ebay for a replacement, and not one has the complete unit, the cradle with the curly wire.
so how can i check to find out if it is the curly wire or the cradle that is at fault, and also what is the correct way to dissconect the wire from the cradle, or are these supplied as complete units, and would i be able to buy any cradle to fit a different phone, thanks

Look at the contact pins in the area where the phone meets the cradle.

ive taken it all apart, and everything looks ok, no bends pins in the cradle, and no loose wires in or around the connector, so im thinking maybe an hour on a star machine ?
comand -on-line do stock the complete unit, though they are out of stock at the moment :-(
