Hi, thought you may be interested in my recent upgrade to my command 2.5 (with TV Tuner) in my S500L to cheaply give me DVB freeview TV and MP3 and Video flie playback for under £60
after our area's analogue TV switch off my MB tuner was pretty useless, i had not got round to installing a DVD player using the AUX imputs if the MB tuner so thought now was the time to sort it! My idea was to install an aftermarket DVB tuner to the AUX1 imput of the commands MB tuner and a DVD player to AUX2 but had never found a suitable lead to give me both imputs, so i'll make one then!! got a 12v DVB tuner off ebay with built in MP3 and video player using USB flash memory or built in SD card reader (i just use USB) the unit i used is this one: XTRONS these can be found on Ebay, the unit performs well (i use it mostly for MP3 playback) although because it runs via the TV the screen is currently blanked out during driving. the MP3 can be set to play the contents of a folder but unfortunatly i have not yet found a way to force it to play the contents of a usb stick when in seperate folders, you have to keep changing the folder. I have used the small PCB type plugs (like used for computer case power switch/ leds to the system board) to constuct a lead and simply slid the individual plugs over the individual pins of the MB tuner. I have all the pin out documentation here: TVTunerPinouts.jpg socket E and F on the rear of the MB tuner module are AUX 1 and 2 (cant remember which is which) pin 1 is composite video in and pin 7 (adjacent to 1) is ground Pin6 is audio L in and Pin 5 (next to 6) is ground pin 12 is audio R in and pin 11 (next to 12) is ground to provide IR remote control signals from the rear TV I cut the IR reciever lead and connected (either the white or red cant remember but if you get it wrong it just wont work and didnt cause me any damage) to pin 9 of socket C. I have not found how to patch into the front command's IR sensor but would be interested if anyone knows. The Freeview tuner uses a Mag TV ariel which i atach to the bootlid and is ok in strong signal areas, i would be very interested in the possibility of patching into the MB arial if anyone has any ideas on how?? all in all cost me under £60 any questions or if anyone has any ideas to improve on this please PM me! Thanks and Enjoy!! |
