Default Scuttle Shake

Re my 2004 S Class 320 cdi:
I have recently started to experience scuttle shake when cruising on motorway type roads. It only really happens when gradually accelerating from 50 / 60mph to overtake. It does not do it when I boot it. There is a slight improvement if in sport mode and in normal mode when I turn off the ESP and I do have brand new rear tyres. Admittedly a service is slightly overdue but I have never had a diesel car before. Maybe I am not accelerating hard enough? Any suggestions ?

Several ideas come to mind.

a) Remove the wheels and have them balanced again

b) Have the wheels bearings and rotors replaced with new pads

c) Look at the ball joints and thrust arm bushes

d) Perhaps perform a transmission service if the miles are high

e) Check the air pressure in the tyres

No drumming noise, I call it scuttle shake but it seems as though the front passenger door shakes.

It needs to be inspected by a dealer or specilaist garage to make sure everything is running true.

Get it road tested by an expert.

I know of a case where transmission oil change fixed the problem.
