Thread: Amercan Import : what changes to arrange

I am happy, I found this fora!

I am an ordinary car user. Last year, I brought S550 (221 model 2008 manufactured in 2007) from USA with me to Dubai. I just popped the current (at that time dvd of a friend who has s500) command dvd in navigation unit and it updated.(I do not know what was updated on the hard disk of the system) Dealer here are very expensive to even ask a question. Basically I am having following problems and hope, I will be helped.

1. Garage door opener is not operating. They have suggested a change at a cost of abt. $750. So I am using an ordinary remote but will love to use it.

2. When I dial phone through contacts it adds prefix 011(USA international access code). I use Iphone 3gs through blue-tooth adapter which I brought from USA but it does not upload contacts, (which it was not doing in USA as well)

3.Sat radio does not work but I am not aware if there is any sat radio available here that can be configured.

4. Most important what other changes shall I look for to be done here on other electronic/other systems.

FM radio frequency is only odd numbers i.e. fm 94.1 94.3 94.5 and so on. I will like to have even frequencies as well.

Anyone please! It needs to return to German specs!

Things I know that differ from German spec to US spec

a) Yellow marker lights on the bumper
b) The door lock pins on German "dissapear" when locked (to prevent opening with a bit of wire/tape) but US ones are longer with a button to aid opening
c) The spring settings (ride height) are different on US spec cars
d) Many models the COMAND system is totally different
e) Many models the phone system is also different
f) Garage door openers operate on different frequency - you have to change the whole mirror and its not cheap
g) Tyre pressure monitor devices can be on a different frequency
h) Remote control has different frequency and sometimes signal strength
i) US cars get PANIC button on remote, EU dont.
j) US cars get SAT Radio, but that is only for North America as there isn't any coverage in Europe
k) US cars can get Teleaid (MBrace is the new name) again nothing in EU.
l) US cluster is setup different as US gallon different to EU gallon and US uses MPH wheras Germany uses KMH
m) US radio frequency range and spacing is different to EU

And there probably is quite a lot else

I suspect you need someone clever with Star Diagnosis in "engineering" mode who can re-configure the cluster and stereo to behave. I don't beleive the garage door opener can be reconfigured (it can not on other models) you can change the door pins if you want quite easily!

c) (spring hieght) I have been looking to locate but still can not find it after owning it for more than 2 years.

f)bought an add-on to the garage door opener box inside the garage but did not work. Am trying again on next Thursday to sort it out.

l) changed the layout to km /l when changed the country in set up. now miles show inside while KM show outside of the circle. Could not set up F to C for temperature though.

m) radio frequencies have cost me most of my favorite stations.

That is my main problem and will keep looking. Tried to get the engineering mode shortcuts but did not succeed till now. Got few for my older cars but alas! sold them so these codes are of no use to me.
