Default GLK Rear View Mirror upgrade

I have the opportunity to buy a used Interior RearView Mirror for my GLK. The reason I want to do this is because my GLK did not come with Premium1 package that included the Garage Door Opener controls and teh Autodimming function.

So my question is, If the mirror I found (which came from the same year GLK)has the controls, can I simply swap out my mirror for the one that has the controls? The one I found has two power plugs. I'm not sure what my car has as far as wires are concerned.

Thanks in advance....

Mirrors have microphones oriented with the side of the steering wheel. There is also a frequency restriction on the garage opener which varies with country.

You might want to check with the part number.

Yes, you can switch them over [subject to Benzmodz's comments]. The plugs plug into the over head control panel (the one with the light switches!) and the microphone cable up there.

To swop them over (I'm assuming its the same as the W204 C), remove the cover over the rain sensor and unclip the cover over the mirror base (it doesnt remove) then, lower the OCP (it hinges from the windscreen end, and is released by inserting a credit card in the edge at the rear).
- locate the mirror wiring and unclip (one clips in on left edge of OCP, other is connected to wiring that goes back to the stereo).

Then unclip the mirror which involves pulling the base of the mirror down and twisting - probably easiest to have clipped the OCP back into place at this point.

Inserting the new mirror is best done by inserting the left edge of the mirror (look at the clip, you will see it is not as bevelled on the right side as the left), and then pushing the aluminium base of the mirror on the right in using a large flat screwdriver.

No coding should be needed (same is true for installing auto-dim mirror)

Yes the mirror is from a US model. So the Microphone should be on hte correct side and the Garage Door Frequencies should be good as well.

Thanks for your helpful insight.

Thanks Richard! I went ahead and bought hte mirror. Got it for $300. on EBay. I thought that was a pretty good deal as opposed to the dealer who wants $1100. It is also an autodimming mirror as well.

I'll let everyone know how it works out.

I find the mirror difficult to insert at times. So I spray one side of the spring with silicon spray and it goes right in.

Benzmodz is right, and I think if you don't set it, then it dims even if the car is in reverse or an interior light is on, which is not what you want

How do I set the OCP code to "Dimming Mirror" present?

I completed the mirror replacement. It was easy. Just be careful and don't "force" things to come apart.

Guru's are correct. The computer must be changed to "Dimming Mirror Present" for the Mirror to not dim when in reverse or when turning on an overead light. But the mirror will still function correctly.

I think I found a trick to the Mirror Installation that maybe not too many people know about.

Many complain that the mirror is difficult to "pop" back in. But I found that there is a very small spring clip under the larger "tubular" sprint. I found when you use a large pair of pliers and push the pins of the large tubular spring "inward" this allows you to pull the small spring clip which will then "seat" in between a "notch" on the barrel shaft. In other words, it fills a small notch on the large pin. This in turn keeps the pin somewhat inwards and allows you to just gently push the mirror back into its socket easily. At the same time you push the mirror back in, the force of this pushes that small spring clip that you earlier left holding the large pin inward, out of the notch and back into its original place. I think this is what they do at the factory because it would be crazy to have the technicains building brand new cars stopping the assembly line because of this installation. So I think the Mirror Manufacturer sends the mirros with the small pin holding the large pin in place for easy installation. But this is just my opinion anyway.
