I have noticed that when parked in my garage, my W209 CLK has a soft purr sound somewhere behind the dash. It can only be heard in a quiet location, eg garage. Apart from a cat being asleep in my car for a very long time, anyone know what it is? I assume it is an electric fan, but why and what for I am at a loss. It never shuts off.
I tried the MB Forum, but have not had much success with a result. Regards Ingin |

Does the car have COMAND or not, and is it pre MY2005 facelift (i.e is COMAND CD based), or post (DVD widescreen COMAND)
Hard to diagnose remotely, but it could be the fan in COMAND (which should power off after a while) or possibly the fan in the aircon temperature sensor (has fan to suck air in) but I'm not sure whether that is in the over-head-control panel or on the main dashboard on a CLK. Richard |

Hi Richard, My CLK is a 2006 facelift model and does not have a command system, just an Audio 20. The car has been parked for over 24 hours and the noise is still there. It could also be described as being like a transformer hum and it is definitely coming out of the Audio console area.
Thanks Ingin |

Sorry, no ideas without actually being there. I'd pop the bottom end of the dashboard off and see if you can locate it further. (Look at the retrofit iPod document on Mercedes Electronics upgrades, installation and retrofits for info on how to do that)

I can't reply to Ingin's thread, so I'll add an observation here, if I may.
My 2006 C180K does the same thing, as does a friend's. He doesn't have Comand, and mine did it both before and after Comand was installed. The sound is very faint but it's there all the time. It hasn't caused any problems in the nearly four years I've had the car. |
