    Default W163 rear bumper removal

    Hi Guys,

I need to remove the rear bumper on my 2005 ML270cdi in order to fit a Parking sensor. Can anyone give me clue as to how I do this ?

    Thanks

One of our members (filip) has done this and asked me to post the information.

Assuming your car does not have eCall.

    a) Get a big blanket or piece of cardboard and put it on the floor, to rest bumper on once removed.
    b) remove the left right and central bumper covering sections (they just unclip using a wedge, be careful with the paint)
    c) You can then see 4 screws. 2 under the central bumper cover, and one uner each of the side one
    d) If the car has the dirt trap retaining strap remove that nut
    e) With 2 people, remove the bumper by pulling toward the rear. You can do this with 1, but first time get someone to help.
    f) If car has parktronic undo the connector
    g) place bumper on blanket/cardboard

Bumper screws should be tightened to 8Nm. The strap nut should be tightened to 6Nm.

Mercedes recommend using a soft wedge to remove the bumper covers.

    Hi Richard,

Thanks for that excellent reply. I didn't think it would be that simple and I hate playing with trim as the clips etc. are usually so fragile.

In order to fit the parking sensor I need to identify the reversing light feed. Do you know what colour it is by any chance.

    Regards

    Brian
