Default mpg and engine temp.....? W211 220 CDI

My daily run is 60 miles up the motorway and I used to get 45mpg very consistently. Recently this has dropped to 40/41 ish - at around the time the weather turned a bit colder.... I have also notice that the engine temp is showing around 70deg rather than 85+ as it used to.

Questions:

- do you expect mpg to drop off in colder weather?
- is there a thermostat for engine temp or is that electronically controlled? can it be re-set?
- would the drop in engine temp reduce the mpg?

Thanks, Phil

hi,

This is all pretty normal behaviour in this weather with the CDI models.

You could have the thermostat removed and tested to see if it ok?
