Default Light sensors on the 203

I know about the windscreen mounted sensor but there must be more?

Yesterday I noticed while driving to work the headlights were on (about 7am) and COMAND was in night mode. Then part way to work COMAND switched to day mode, headlights still on. Pulling into my parking spot I noticed the cornering fogs were not coming on as I maneuvered but the headlights were still on.

So, what told COMAND to switch to day mode? And what told the cornering fogs not to illuminate?

Your headlights are in CONSTANT mode. Check your cluster settings.

Theres a light sensor on COMAND NTG2 (look each side of the DVD slot)

There is a light sensor one side and I think the IR remote sensor the other.

Certainly on W164 the software in COMAND uses that as the prime signal for switching to night mode (cover it up for a few seconds) - and on vehicles like the Viano/Vito/Sprinter the "headlight" light sensor is an option.

[edit, PS, Benzmodz, its still dark here at 7am, we know you live in a nicer climate :-)]

Thanks Richard. I've had a closer look at the COMAND and yes, as you say, two sensors are there (must admit I thought they were fixing screw covers!!).

I tried covering them but there was no change in the screen display mode. Must be some signal exchange with the headlight switch or sensor?

The bit that really intrigues me is why the cornering fogs didn't come on, even though the headlights were on? They did when I turned out of my courtyard but not later in the works car park.

The fogs were working! I tested by pulling the switch

P.S. BenzModz - the lights are defiantly not on constant setting

Yes, it maybee that W203 doesnt use the sensor on the COMAND, or uses that and other sensors on the car.

I've never found anything explaining properly how this all works, it seems to vary between the different series of vehicles too.
