Default Replacing blower switch on W169

My fan does not seem to work until it gets to position "5" then it is forcefull and audible.
I have been told it is a common problem and is the rheostat.
How much usually needs to be replaced, i.e. bank of 3 switches or is the rheostat removeable?
Any tips, do i need to remove the battery etc?
Finally do I get in via removing the glove box or is there any nifty shortcuts?
Thank you.

The blower switch is just that, a multi position switch. It then feeds a resistor pack which feeds the blower motor.

It is possible the switch pack has failed, more likely the resistors in the resistor pack, or very unlikely the wiring between.

The resistor pack is attached to the blower motor, and you have to remove the glovebox to get at it. Removing glovebox is simple - see my retrofit comand aps document (for W169) on Mercedes Electronics upgrades, installation and retrofits

It is available seperately, but depends on what aircon system is installed in the car

Cheers
Richard
