Within the warranty period, I've had 4 replacement mirror glasses, replaced due to failure of the heating element. Now out of warranty, another one has failed - is this a common problem, or should I be looking (or asking MB to look) for something more fundamental?

Sounds like the door controller is not working or the wiring is making a short circuit.

Hi,
The dealer confirms that the wiring has been checked (although I'm not 100%) - the history is complicated by the mirror faiures being on either door, with no particular pattern. What function does the door controller carry out? is it a dealer check issue? |

Door controller controls all aspects of the mirror, and lighting in the door etc.
I've never heard of repeated door glass failures. Do you run your rear heated windscreen on alot ? Richard |

Hi Richard - apologies for delay in responding.
No, I actually use the rear screen heater very rarely, but it doesn't appear to be linked to the door mirrors, as one might expect (hence your question I guess) - the mirror heaters are always on, and have been since new. I've always assumed that this is an intention arrangement by MB, but maybe not? |

The mirror heater will switch on at 15degC and below.
If the glass is less than two years old it will be covered by MB parts warranty.

Have to wonder if the door controller has a worn power supply.
