Looking for some salvation on this as its greatly annoying me
![]() Just recently , my satnav has been giving me grief . For no apparent reason its started to lose its signal and bears no relation to where I actually am ? It might do this for a couple of days then return to normal , only for a day or so lose signal again . It never shows how many sats are connected even when the nav is working . The clock doesnt lose time so , not sure whats happening but its desperately upsetting . The car is a 55 plate CLS . Any advice to resolving this issue would be most appreciative , thanks in advance . |

I would start with flashing all the telematics modules.
- head unit - navigation unit - phone Then look at any outer modules in the system that need flashing. I hope that you don't have a cloned DVD in the map reader ? That can cause it too. All else failing I would imagine that it can also be related to water in the roof antenna.

By Flashing Im assuming you mean put it on a diagnostics machine and see what comes up ? Or is this something I can do " In Car " myself ?
The disc in the DVD drive is genuine , even though I knew it was already I did double check . The water in the roof ariel could be a possibilty however , how do I go about finding out ? Looked at the ariel and it seems well secured . |

The water penetration into the aerial is an issue which affects the design of this antenna.

You need to establish if the unit is seeing any satellites at all.
Press MAP. Then press one of the soft keys on the side of the screen. Select display, then select MAP. Set the 'current location' option and then press back a few times. The screen should show you the number of satellites at the bottom. If this is '-' then you have a faulty antenna. If its zero then the antenna cant see any satellites. you need at least 3 or 4 to get a good fix. |

I done what you said and yes where is shows long and lat ( only way I can describe it ) along with Alt and SAT it shows " - " for both ALT and SAT .
Does this mean its a faulty antenna ? And what parts actually need replacing ? Im guessing that as Mercedes moved the antennas of the glass ( early model like mine ) to the actual roof was because of poor placement in the first place ? The '-' means that the Navigation computer is not seeing the GPS antenna, which 99% means the antenna is broken (and 1% the navigation processor itself)
You can either replace the glass mounted antenna or put in a new one under the parcel shelf (above the metal below the material) and connect to the back of the navigation computer in the boot. Easiest job is the latter, see here .. Comand Online Ltd :: COMAND Retrofit parts :: Genuine MB GPS Antenna and adapter for DVD and Hard Disk COMAND APS Richard |

As it turned out it was the GPS Antenna that was broke . Happened to pass by a main dealer and enquired about the cost of supplying and fitting .....
Expecting need a valium after the quote I was pleasantly suprised .... £260 all in fitted back in its original position , and they washed and vaccumed the car ........ and they noticed my rear lip spoiler was starting to unstick itself so they removed it reapplied some bonding tape and restuck it back on all FOC . Super impressed and a big thanks to the guys at MB Swindon .
