    Default W202 radio locking

Reference late model W202 with EIS, infra red key.

I have two cars with the same problem now!!

I run a 1999 W202 estate as a courtesy car. Came from Japan with only one key, so ordered another. Neither the key I had, nor the new one lock the car via the radio locking. Locking works from infra red aimed at door handles fine, and starts and stops the engine as you would expect. I put it down to being from Japan, and didn't wory about it.

Last week I supplied a new key for a customer with 1999 C43. Proper UK car, history etc. The new key does the ignition fine, and locks via infra red, but the radio locking does not work. His original key radio locking works fine.

I have been through Star 'till I am blue in the face (and fingers this weather!!), but to no avail.

Anyone have any answers about how to get it working?? Customer understandably annoyed, as keys don't come cheap and then when they don't work as per the original...

    TIA

    UB

Can you post the part numbers of the keys. The keys for different markets use different frequencies (and the pickup amplifiers in the car thus different), and I suspect that some keys are for different markets ..

If you send me the chassis numbers i'll try and find the right key body part numbers also

I will hook out the relavent details in the morning.

The keys were ordered from Mercedes by chassis number (I know of no other way!), therefore if what you are suggesting is correct, it is a mistake by Mercedes in sending me keys that are not suitable for use with the chassis number I supplied them with??

There are only 3 frequency zones. 761. 762 and 763. I have never seen other ones myself.

    762 - Australia
    761 - Europe, Singapore
    763 - USA (762 with panic)

I am just giving you some references. Look on the datacard as to which applies in your case.
