Default how to remove the odometer [W209 CLK cluster removal]

Hello,
I imported my CLK500 2005 from the US to Europe. I've bought now the gauge face with km/h instead of mph, but therefore I have to remove the odometer. I have the hooks to pull it out but I don't really know how to do it.
Does anyone can tell me a bit more detailed how to do that job?

I know that I have to remove tha battery first.
Then drive out the steering wheel completely and downwards.
.... then how to proceed with the hooks?

I would really appreciate help

Hi,

For the CLK you actually need the cluster pulling hooks from the dealer... with a slight "L" on the end will also do... You insert it with the base of the L (into the small holes on each side) facing the cluster then turn down 90 degrees... do this on both sides, this unclips the cluster and locks the wire and you can pull out...

Using a clock analogy.

The L-shape of the tool is the hand. So the left hook goes at 9 and the right hook goes at 3. Then slide them all the way in and turn both hooks to 6. Pull gently.

There is no reason to disconnect the battery.

Also, you should take this to an expert so that he can replace just the graphic of the cluster. Instead of replacing the entire module.

Thanks BenzModz!

I have the graphics of the cluster and will try to replace them myself.

There was a bit of confusion for me with the hooks... so I hope I got everything right.

- Some people said to remove the battery because otherwise it would show SRS-Error? Is that true? This would have to be fixed by a MB dealer...

- so for left side: small pin of hook is directed to 9 (on a clock), completely inserted into left hole and then turned 90° counterclockwise to 6

- for right side: small pin of hook is directed to 3, completely inserted into right hole and then turned 90° clockwise to 6

- then everything is pulled gently

Can anyone confirm this? I guess would also help other people...

Yes. hooks go in about 8cm (they hit a stop), and you trun then downward to release the catch and pull, I tend to push outward on the hooks so they grip against the body of the cluster properly

Default Removal of Odometer in Mercedes CLK W209

Great, Thank you very much!!! It worked!

So here the entire way how to do it for someone else:

Removal of the ODOMETER in a Mercedes CLK W209

1. drive steering wheel completely out and down (this helps removing the odometer)
2. remove battery of the car (first remove - then +)
3. use Mercedes Pull hooks (W 140 589 02 33 00) which can be bought on the internet
4. insert the hooks facing the small pin on the end outwards of the odometer, which means the left one directing to left, the right pin facing the right side
5. turn both hoks 90° so that both pins direct to the ground (you will feel how they slide in)
6. remove the odometer gently
7. remove the cable on the back of the odometer
8. remove instrument or replace it

for installation just plug the cable on the back into the odometer, and just push the instrument back

reconnect the battery of the car (fist + then -)

That's it
