You need to install a steering wheel with the buttons or paddles. You can't modify a steering wheel without as there are no holes in it for the buttons/wiring.
If you have the 3 spoke airbag then that has the button controller built in already. (these are on R171 and W203s and part nr starts with R171) If you are going from the 3 spoke airbag to the 4 spoke one (like the CLK/SL/2007-W211-E) then you need the controller and a small lead which is special as it has a special covering on it (I think to protect it from wear as airbag moves when button is pressed or maybee to protect it if airbag goes off). I have never found the part number for that lead. If you are going from 4 spoke to 3 spoke I think you may need to replace the contact spiral :-( Once that is installed the gearbox controller needs to be coded. Richard |

The 7G box needs to be FDOK coded and software flashed.
However, as the car is not a sports edition, online upgrading of the datacard is sure to fail. This is one of the double check exclusions in the FDOK system. Thus it may have to be verbally changed through a higher admin. 7G + 428 are notorious for being blocked on a W203.
