Thread: Newer Chrome 3 button keys

Hi,
As you may know, the older style 3 button key fobs end up cracking. A merc dealer does not sell the case either so you would have to buy the whole key with PCB etc, ching ching !
On Ebay there are the newer 3 button chrome keys, which creates a brain wave: Can I swap out the PCB from my old 2005 CLK 3 button case into the newer case ?
I know you can buy a 2 button chrome key, unsolder the programmed chip from the old key to the new chrome one, but would I lose the remote boot release button ? Besides, if a 3 button one is the same mold inside then its got to be easier.
Anybody know ?

You won't be able to insert your metal key either. It's quite different.

I dont think this is possible, i'd suggest either buying the correct shell on eBay or getting someone to do the chip swop trick referred to in another thread here.
