    Sorry for delay !

The new lights (from March 2008) use LEDs for turn signal, inner tail, and brake lights, also the wiring between then and the rear SAM is different (very different).
    - Because of this, I expect the rear SAM has changed (which drives the rear lights) as it will now need to look for LEDS instead of normal bulbs to detect bulb failure.

I would replace the 'rear end main cable harness' (which just plugs the lights into the SAM) with the appropriate new one, along with rear SAM and the new lights.

Ask your MB dealer for WIS document pe54.21-u-2108-99xaa which has the wiring changes in it.

The EPC (electronics parts catalog) is confused in this area, and doesnt seem to list either the post 03/2008 SAM or lights. It does however show SAM and lights that are valid up to 28/mar/2008 (chassis number 140341) which implies there are new ones after that (but we knew that!)
It does show that A219 540 73 07 is the rear-end wiring harness for cars with option 887 (seperate trunk lid locking) so some of EPC understands cars post chassis nr 140341
    - You may have to find a CLS to have a poke around.

Sorry not 100% complete, but without a 09 CLS (probably any 09 CLS) to poke at (or waiting a bit for EPC to get updated) getting part numbers is difficult.
