Hello Guru’s,

I’ve seen a lot of ad’s on eBay for the new style Mercedes Laser Keys with the Chrome outer case for sale.

My question is firstly “is it all a scam, can these keys really be reprogrammed”?

Secondly “would it be possible to reprogram these keys myself for my current vehicle (E270 CDi Avantgarde W211) or will I have to take it to a dealer”?

They can't be reprogrammed. (perhaps they can by someone with some very specialist equipment, but not by you me or a MB dealer).

So their value is in the new "case" if your one is knackered. I don't know whether the older key electronics from an existing key will fit in a new shiny case (the ones with chrome sides)

Just to add some info to this thread, one of the members here (TelmoChaparro) has done something interesting, he has transplanted the code chip from an old style key into a new style key and thus made the new style key work - so not exactly re-programmed, but re-built.
