    Default W164 IC coding

Yersterday I tryed to change the Instrument cluster coding of my recent ML.
Specificly the lower display to show ambient temperature instead of the Standard KM/H. And also activated the Key dependensy and other memory settings.
But I can cot see this appening on the cluster, I still get the KM/H and not temp.
I rechecked the coding by >IC >control unit adaptation > current menu setting, and I can see the changes I made are there. So why nothink is appening to the cluster, is there somethink else to do for the new settings to be activated.

For the key dependency I can not try it now because I'm waiting for a new key to be supplyed by my dealer.

Any one has any IDEA ?

Did you reset the cluster ? It needs to be rebooted.

Also, UK mode needs turning off if you didn't do that, and the menu to allow you to switch the lower display between speed and outside-temp should be turned on.

ECU reset can be found in the actuations menu. Normally in developer mode, but just occasionaly in the normal mode.

This is done in developer mode. If you dont have developer mode on your STAR system you cant do it i'm afraid.

I have sent you a private message. there are various types of STAR. Basic STAR does not come with developer mode as standard. you will know if you have it if you have options in the menus that say 'diagnosis to plant specifications'

    To fully explain "developer" mode.

Standard Star systems from MB do not come with Developer mode enabled. There are 2 ranges of Star machines from MB, "Compact" and "Basic". I think current verison is the Compact 4W and the Basic 2. Plenty of clone machines around, and my experience is most of them do not come with Developer mode enabled.

All Star machines can be temporarily switched into Developer mode using a password that changes every month and the MB dealer tech helpline knows ...

However the features of any given Star system are controlled by a licence key. With the "right" licence key, developer mode is permanently enabled.

The differences between Basic II and Compact 4W, is the Basic II only runs diagnostics and is a lower end machine. Compact 4W also can have WIS on it, and a wireless connection to the MUX which is connected to the car.

The best source of information for this is Mercedes WIS & DAS install guides
