2004 SL55 in the USA with only 3800 miles that will not read any CDs in the CD0 slot in the Comand unit. Original owner says the unit worked when he originally bought the car. He says both audio and Nav disks were used and the total time the CD0 unit was used in the last 6 years was less than 1 hour.
I get a no CD is inserted message if I select CD0 when in CD mode. A few times I got a CD reading error message. The CD changer works OK. If I press the NAV button and put in a new Blaupunkt DX Nav CD, the unit acts like no CD was inserted. If I enable the Infos screen when in engineering mode while moving, the GPS line and Speed both say 0. How can I test the GPS electronics without a NAV CD? Is the Speed indicator 0 due to no GPS? Dealer says there are no test CDs that I can buy to test the unit. Last edited by busaboy; 03-09-2010 at 02:23 AM. |

CD changer works even using burned CDs, CD1-C6. Radio, AUX input, Weather functions work. Steering wheel controls work. CD0 in the Comand unit does not seem to work with the disks I have tried. I have tried both burned and original audio and NAV DX disks.
In CD mode when I try to select CD0 versus the changer I get a no CD error message. When I select NAV I get a similar error. Both cases I put either a audio or NAV CD into CD0. Once in a while I will get a CD Reading error. I have tried two different NAV CDs. First was a new Blaupunkt DX #9 CD. The next was a burned "Mercedes" #9 CD I found on line. #9 is Southeast USA. I checked both with my PC and they seem to have almost identical files and the config.sys files did not have the Mercedes Comand info commented out so they should have worked according to the info I found on line. The burned CD was used by a guy in his older Audi. I bought the new 2005 Blaupunkt DX CDs on-line from a Blaupunkt dealer who says they work in a Comand 2.0 unit. The CD0 was never used except when the car was originally delivered to the new owner. He only got 1 NAV CD with the car and it was for the wrong state so he never tried it again. The car was bought from a secondary dealer with 100 miles on it in 2003. The guy always used the AUX input when he was in the car for the whopping 3500 miles he drove the car in six years. Is there a test CD I can use to see if the NAV system is functional? Is there a way to test the GPS without a NAV CD? |

The fact that your system doesnt seem to read any disks though indicates a problem with the laser. You can try cleaning the lens with one of those Cd lens cleaners that has the small brushes on the disk. If you can get one which has cleaning fluid then applying a small amount of this to the brushes will help. |

My local Dealers parts Dept first says there is no test CD available. After I gave him the number he says it will cost $35 and it will take a while to come in. Any way I can get the CD image on line? My dealer wants me to buy a new Comand head unit.

These Comand 2 units are notoriously unforgiving with copied disks anyway. You really should stick to using genuine disk. Last edited by Alfie; 03-10-2010 at 12:22 PM. |
