Default W251 Rear Seat Entertainment Audio

I have a question regarding the OEM RSE System on my MY 2006 R class: Is it possible to get the system to play movie sound through the std Audio 20 stereo speakers? I have read elsewhere that it is possible on cars with the Comand APS system (through AUX in its audio settings). No ipod connection involved.

    Thanks

The COMAND (NTG2) system in ML/GL/R has 2 audio inputs, and AUX (on the white 12 pin connector that is part of the big connector on the back) and the Rear input on the black one.

But, the Audio-20 only has one input, so the answer is no.

However, if you are not using the AUX input (i.e no iPod kit), you could move the wiring across (colours are the same) from the black connector to the white connector, then AUX would be the RSE
(In fact, what i'd do is unplug the AUX connector, and re-wire the black connector and put the white cover from the AUX connector onto the black one)

Or you could put COMAND in !!

    Richard,
Many thanks for the quick response. So, if I get this right, the procedure you are reffering to above, involves a physical connection from what appears to be a stand-alone OEM RSES in the back (under centre console), under the carpet, all the way into the back of the audio utilising the AUX input.

Or is it more simple? (i.e. some kind of wiring already connects the RSES with the Audio)

Incidentally, I am considering retrofiting the Comand but I am currently evaluating alternatives. But even in the case of Comand retrofit, if my assumption above is correct I would still need to run wires from the back (DVD player) to the Comand system at the front.

Just assume you are installing COMAND NTG 2.5 which offers a more direct upgrade patch for rear screens.

When I put in RSE onto my ML, the standard wiring loom came with the wiring from the DVD player/RSE controller to the back of the head unit.

If you pop out the head unit, look at the big black connector, there are slots for 2 12 way sub connectors . On your version the white one is for AUX, and the black one if present is the RSE one.

If you have iPod, then follow the loom down and you will find the car's wiring loom plugged into the iPod wiring loom, look on the car's wiring loom as the iPod kit "forwards" all the signals

Benzmodz - does NTG2 RSE work with NTG2.5 COMAND ? (in terms of being able to diagnose it etc, I know you could re-wire the NTG2 audio feed into the NTG2.5).
