Default Audio 20 cd unit upgrade to ntg2.5hdd

trying to upgrade audio 20 unit to ntg2.5hdd on 2006 CLS.Bought relavent retrofit wiring harness of comand online which got the unit powered up but unfortunetly unit shut down with anti theft message on screen, booked vehicle into MB Dealership to get star diognosis but unfortunetly they could not link up to the unit ,electrician mentioned that brown canbus signal wires were possibly in wrong location but did not supply me with much information (waste of time and money) I read on forum that sometimes units have got chassis no built in that causes unit to go into anti theft if put into another vehicle ,is it possible to send unit away to get recalibrated or has anyone got any info what i should do next my local dealership have not got a clue as they have never came across this before.

The wiring harness is correct.

What has happened is that the unit has come out of another car. It can be coded to work again but you will need someone with a genuine Mercedes STAR machine who knows what they are doing. The head unit does indeed store the chassis number of the original car the unit came from. when the ignition goes on it checks this and if it doesnt match the car it is in, then you get the auto theft message. You can try asking the dealer to tell the car that it is an SLK (R171) type car instead of a CLS (W219).

It might be worth saying that we are seeing this more and more often. We think the PIN feature was added in 06/2009 firmware release - which you will require for the new maps.

So, if buying a used NTG2.5 ask for the PIN number and don't forget it ...
