Thread: Navigation not active

I have E270 CDI with comand APS running navigation DVD version 4.1. whe I click on navigation button I heard the message navigation not active; what does that mean and how I make it active. Many thanks

Hi,

My navigation is not showing the map but the GPS seems to be working. When I click on the sound button for repeating the instructions for the last instruction from the navigator I heard the Navigation is not active. I have bought the car in Christmas 2009. The car in a very good condition and I doubt it that there is something wrong with the navigation system. Many thanks

What happens when you press MAP or NAV ?

the "navigation is not active" message comes when you press that "speak" button whenever no route is loaded - whether the car has navigation processor or not.

What age is the car ? If it has 4.1 DVD in in it, it is a few years old and there could be a problem with navigation. Or it could just need a new map disk (if it had a newer one and someone put an old one in before selling the car to you)

I have ordered the latest navigation DVD(V10), but I have not received it yet. Do I need any software to upgrade my system before I install the new navigation DVD? Many thanks for your help.

4.1 to the latest is OK.

(It was V3 to V7 that needed a firmware upgrade).

There is a firmware update to the COMAND (from 2007) that adds the facility to display estimated time of arrival all the time when navigating.

I suspect you have a problem with your navigation drive, but it could be a damaged map disk but i'd expect you to be able to see physical damage. [or of course my earlier suggestion]

yesterday I have notices if I use the destination in memory, the navigator is displaying the map and every thing is working perfect but when I enter any new destination the navigator wont let me complete the name of the street due to some letters are grey(not active) and I can't press them. My car is E270 CDI registered 23/01/2004. Many thanks

the letters that are greyed out are not available with the combination you have already entered. So for example;

If you are looking for High Street and the only road in that town with 'H' 'i' in its name is 'high Strret' then once you enter H and i you will then only see G as available.

The thing that often confuses people is the space character in road names. Remember to add this in if the road name has a space in it.

As I recall there is a flash update CD for the Nav drive.
