    Default W211 mic wiring

I have a Eclass W211 saloon - and i'm updating the audio to a new audion 20 with Bluetooth and MP3 etc....

I'm quite happy with chaning over the head unit but the mic needs to be re-wired with a new cable to the head unit. Pulling the trim to peicesis a bit daunting. Are there any top tips / special tools / things to avoid? Where does the cable run?

    Thanks,

    Phil

    Hi
Cable runs to the mic interconnect point behind the left rear seat squab.

If you look at Mercedes Electronics upgrades, installation and retrofits there is a 'comand aps retrofit for W211' document, which shows you how to take (more than you need) apart

Remember you need an adapter cable to change the Audio-20-CD wiring to NTG2.5. Connector looks same but power wiring very different

Comand Online Ltd :: COMAND Retrofit parts :: W211 last E, W219 CLS :: W211/W219/R171 E/CLS/SLK Audio-20-CD to COMAND NTG2.5 conversion set for cars with phone

    Richard, Thanks for the reply.

The kit I have includes a replacement cable that is supposed to go direct from the mic in the mirror to the head unit. I will no longer be using the cradle in the armrest as the new unit has bluetooth built in. Is this a feasible way to go about the upgrade? (bearing in mid that the new unit is the MY2009 Audio 20).

Does the trim around the windscreen come out reasonably easily?

Assuming your cable is a grey cable with a 6 way connector on one end, it is a lot easier to run it to the microphone interconnect point described above.

I have not run the cable on a W211 to the existing microphone, because it is much easier running it to the interconnect point (which is where the microphone wiring from the roof comes down toward the old phone controller in the boot)

If you must run it up to the mic, you can run it between the door rubber and the trim, you dont need to undo much then, but then you have to get the overhead control panel out to get to the mic connector there.

    Cheers
