    Unhappy W219 Audio 20 upgrade to NTG2.5 - Issues

    Hi,

I've just done an upgrade of the Audio 20 in my 2007 CLS to NTG2.5

It is working well for the most part, but I have a couple of issues with it.

If I turn on the ignition and start the car, once the unit gets past the logo and the warning message it displays the "Anti-Theft Protection Activated" message. The only way I get rid of it is to stop the car, take out the key, then press and hold the On button for 30 secs until the unit cycles, then switch on the unit and start the car. All good again, but a pain to do each time.

The radio reception is dodgy on FM and non-existent on MW despite connection the existing antenna to the new unit using one of the small cable adapters that have been advised.

Finally, the Navigation doesn't show in the main dashboard information window between the clock and the speedometer. The phone book shows fine and the coding's been done to make the steering wheel buttons work, but no navigation. The navigation in the main unit works fine though, so not the biggest of issues.

Apart from this the unit is a big improvement over Audio 20!!! Nearly as good as the MMI High that I had on my old Audi A6

Can anyone suggest a fix for these problems?

    Cheers,

    JM.

There are several issues running concurrently.

    1) The anti theft protection has two functions. One is through the comand and one is through the ignition switch.

You will need the correct pin code in order to override the theft protection. This must be supplied with the installers procedure from a new unit. The second function is recognition by the ignition switch that the theft protection is operational in this later version of navigation. If the unit is used then I think it will never work.

    2) The radio function is poor because in the CLS with NTG2.5 there is a new way of offering power to the radio amplifier in this modification. you will need some new wiring or new radio amplifier or both. Just be careful not to destroy the rear fuse box totally by not being compliant with the changes. In other words if you do install a new wire ... read the wiring diagram first.

    3) The cluster has not been coded for navigation to be present.

If you can find an older NTG 2.5 with no theft protection then it will be ok. The radio reception can not be resolved in the same way as it is for A B ML and so on. It is a totally different arrangement.

If your navigation came from Lithuania please alert them that you need the pin code or an older NTG.

    Hi,

Thanks for the prompt response. Replies to 2 and 3 make sense, although I couldn't see where the navigation coding option was on the diagnostic laptop. I will take another look. I didn't quite understand your reply to the first point. Can you please elaborate?

    Thanks again,

    JM

Brand new units generate PINs when first installed which are then registered against the car's datacard in VeDOK. (the latter being a manual process)

So this means that if a PIN has been generated you need it, and it should have been registered against the car the unit was first installed in.

I say "should have been" because it is always possible that a dealer who installed a new (replacement) unit failed to update VeDOK.
