Hi,
I have a 2006 A-Class (W169) with UK standard Audio-20 CD/Tuner. I do not have any phone functionality (although it obviously has the various dashboard/wheel phone buttons). Unfortunately, the CD player is broken (insert CD, lots of 'rat-ta-tat" noise, then 'No Disc'. CD remains trapped until I hold eject for >5 seconds, then more rat-ta-tat and spits it out).
From reading, it seems that the newer Audio-20 fitted to MY2009 W169 has the integrated bluetooth (I always assumed it was separate) and may/may not play CDs with MP3 files? (unlike the older Audio-20).
First question - in straight audio-only terms, could this newer unit be straight-swapped for my faulty older unit? (would the new unit need a code for the radio to work?)
Second question - if I want the bluetooth functionality added to allow my iPhone to communicate for phone functions, what cabling do I need? (I notice the £129 approx cable kit on comandonline, but not clear that I need all those cables, since it says it's for a Comand retro-fit as opposed to Audio-20?
i.e.
"The kit consists of: -
Microphone & velcro
FM/AM antenna/splitter adapter
Bluetooth antenna
FM power connection
AUX input shell (to re-wire AUX input) "?
Third question - if the MY2009 Audio-20 can be fitted, is there some way to have the MY2009 iPod integration added later, but have it display on the Audio-20 LCD panel the track info etc? (noticed mention of the media interface that suggests it can do this, but again seemed to just say for the full Comand unit, rather than the Audio-20). I am unclear if the NTG2.5 designation covers all the MY2009 units, so this type of function is now generic across Audio-20/50/Comand units?
Final question (honest!) - If I got hold of a really cheap pre-2009 Audio-20 for any of the MB range (e.g. last model C-class), is an option just to swap the internals of the CD with my faulty one?
Thanks for your time!
Andy
