Default 2004 W211 another cradle phone query

    Hello,

Recently purchased car is the W211 E270 CDI 2004 and has the cradle part no. a2118201451 which slots the Nokia 6310i handset.

Everything works when connected except the other party cannot hear me. Its like my mic has been disconnected/muted.

    I did the following:

    1. Cleaned connectors at both the cradle and phone.
    2. Lifted the phone from the cradle seat, still connected to the cradle by the curly wire, and again the same problem persists. I can hear the other party (lower volume now) but the other party cannot hear me.
    3. The phone works fine when not connected in any way to the car ie. like regular cell phone use.

Unfortunately, this phone being really old its not possible for me to source a headset to check if the connectors on the phone are ok. Also sourcing another 6310i for a test run again is near impossible for same reasons.

My intention s to get the Visee0 MB - 1000 Bluetooth Adapter, however prior to making the purchase, I need to confirm if the car system is ok.

I have searched the forums and unfortunately have not been able to locate any similar situation.

    Thanks in advance.

That cradle in your car is known for the wires in the curly lead breaking and causing exactly the symptoms you describe.

New ones are available here: -

Comand Online Ltd :: Phone Cradles & Adapters :: W211 (E class) Nokia 6310i cradle with curly cable.

They also sell the ViseeO ..

Thank you. The curly cable is infact frayed and though the wires are not exposed, the inner cloth sheath is exposed and this is very close to the cradle entry point.

Was wondering, would this fault show up if the sytem is put on the Star diag?

    UPDATE

Had it checked at my friendly neighbourhood MB dealer/workshop. Fortunately there are no fault codes (current or other wise). They also removed and cleaned the mic connector and associated connectors under the cradle. No succcess. Which then leads me to conclude that the vehicle system is ok and most likely it is the phone connector out module.

Unfortunately, there were no other vehicles at the dealer with the same 6310i (2004) cradle, else could have tested with my phone to be sure. They have assured me they will inform me whenever such a vehicle comes in so that we can test it out.

Meanwhile, have sent the phone to a phone repair tech to estabilish if the connectors are ok!!!

As you have found out the older systems don't test the connection to the phone very well. UHI has some more diagnostics.

It's almost certainly the curly cable

    Thanks Richard,

Will try and source another handset / vehicle to positively identify the problem and then go ahead with the required unit (cradle / visee0) as the case may be.

    Thanks again.

    Default Fault Found

Managed to source another 6310i and the system worked. So the vehicle system is fine. No to go for the MB-1000 Visee0.
