Default CD-changer retrofitting S210 01 mod

Hi
I'm retrofitting a 2.0 comand (A210 820 54 89) and a CD-changer (A 002 820 7989 model MC3198) into a S210 2001 E220 CDI. The car is originally equipped with the Audio10 and Nokia phone system.

For the Comand It seems that I have the connections I need, but the CD-changer came with no cables attached. I know I can get the fibre optic D2B cable between Comand unit and the changer. I suppose this cable is for the audio signals, but the question is: How do I power up the changer?

In case I need a new cable for the power/wake up signal to the changer, question two is where to get it or what is the original part number? (Hope I don't need the whole cable harness.)

Thanks

The 10 pin C1 connector on the back of the head unit is power and the blue cable is wakeup.

PM me your chassis (VIN) number

You need a fibre harness (from head unit to CDC) and a power harness (basically from head unit to CDC) - as benzmodz says the gnd/+12 comes from C1, and the wakeup from C2, and fibre from the fibre network...

You need to convert the existing C connector to C1/C2 if you had an existing C connector (do you ???) (10 way ISO connector like 8 way ones for power/speakers)

Thanks for rapid reply

The VIN: WDB2102061B294891

I know I have to buy the fibre cable, about £ 20-30 from the local dealer. I have the converting for C connector to C1/C2. Its also a marked cable for speed-signal. To operate the Comand I think I have what I need, including gps-antenna.

Its the power to CDC I cant find, maybe its laying around someplace near the radio-console. Havent looked yet, but it then should be a wire in the trunk as well. I searched around forums and some cars already have spare fibre and power cables in trunk, but maybe mine its occupied by the phone system (if there where any spare fibre/power at all). In that case I guess i manually have to fix cables, as you mentioned. Now is the question, which goes where on the changer, the 3-pin connector with zig-zag at the short end? Havent found anything in forums yet, (little baby to take care of too ).

Again, thanks

As you have a European car it will have no pre-wiring in there.

Part numbers for T model (estate): -
CDC wiring harness (with COMAND) A210 440 49 05
Fibre radio->CD-changer A210 540 97 33

If you have phone or other D2B components you will need a D2B joiner to put it into the ring: A000 545 33 84

Have the dealer check the part numbers before ordering (as they dont like returns)

Cheers

Richard

Ok I've got the parts I need. But the C2 has two options for wake up. According to a schema I have are: Pin 01 wake up (Robert-Bosch CAN) and pin 10 D2B wake up. Which one of these shall I use for wake up signal to the CD-Changer?

Thanks again.

Think I've solved the problem as there is no C2 pin 1 connected at the back of the Comand but the pin 10 is.

You havent :-)

It needs to go to pin 10 - splice it to the existing same coloured wire in pin 10
- or find the D2B joining point in one of the front door sill wiring ducts and plug it in there.

all the D2B wakeup connections (one from each fibre optic connected unit) connect together.
