Default Comand APS W211 [firmware & map updates]

For my 2006 E280 (just purchased), is it worth trying to update the COMAND APS (W211) software? Will I get new functionality?

I would also like to update the navigation software for it. Any tips would be gratefully received.

Assuming you are in Europe (or anywhere except Japan & North America) installing the Model Year 2007 firmware gives you a nice 'Estimated Time of Arrival' display on the map screen whilst navigating.

So if your 06 E class is pre the facelift (where the mirrors changed and steering wheel changed) it will be a MY06, so its worth getting the update done.

Map update for Europe is here: -

    Thanx Richard
I already get "estimated time of arrival" - so do you know how to determine which version of firmware I already have? Do you know how to upgrade it?

Does the latest navigation DVD give speed camera warnings?

Indeed I am in Europe (UK). The car is March 06 - not sure if its pre-facelist. Mirrors do fold (but not automatically when car locked) and steering is leather with volume control + menu with up/down arrows.

The "obvious" difference between the older firmware and latest is that the ETA can be displayed all the time on the map, rather than having to ask for it.

Upgrading: You hold down the 1,3,8 keys and then insert the update disk. Update disk is part nr W211 589 13 22 00 some dealers will supply, others wont.

The latest navigation DVD does not have speed camera warnings (or 7 digit UK postcodes)

06 E class: you should be able to turn on the auto-fold feature from the instrument cluster settings menu (in "convenience" I think).

I don't seem to have the "convenience" submenu in "instrument cluster settings" - do you think a firmware update would give me that option? Do you know how I can find out the current version of my firmware?

OK, that function needs to be turned on with Star diagnosis - but its done in the instrument cluster - so software update in the COMAND will not help you

If you are in UK, talk to sales@comandeurope.com they can do all this for you, whereas MB dealers don't tend to want to do it..

    Cheers
