Thread: ntg 2 to ntg 2.5 w169 [a class COMAND upgrade]

I have a W169 2005 with audio 20 and cd changer without phone,gps.
I would like to retrofit the new NGT2.5, is it possible ?
If it is, please may you explain to me what modification i need to do on the car?

the ntg 2.5 A 169 870 49 94 (U.S version) is compatible?

It is possible however, you will need to remove the CD changer and also to install the new microphone connections.

That is the one for cars without phone, shop will remove 15% VAT if you are outside EU.

Unit will need coding and have the correct map installed of course. I would suggest really you pick the right unit for the area you are in ...

What coding i will need? and how can i do this? Is it easy?

Yes that will work in Greece.

If your car has Harmon Kardon , then you can not put NTG2.5 in easily

If the unit you buy has been configured for Harmon Kardon, then you will get no sound unless the unit is properly coded.
If the unit has been configured for UCI (Media Interface) or Video Aux, then the AUX input (and thus a standard iPod kit) will not work
Otherwise it should work without coding.

Coding is difficult as MB dealer can not do it, needs to be done by an Independant with Star Diagnosis and "developer mode".

Also, Greece is only decently covered by the latest map (released at beginning of this month): -

But installing it may need the firmware in the COMAND updated if it has very old firmware on the COMAND (again probably by a dealer or someone with the firmware disk and Star diagnosis, firmware releases are made with the Star Diagnosis monthly disk release_

where must i look to see if my car has harman cadon?

My car has audio 20, cd changer, sub woofer in the trunk, speaker on the center (front), and speakers in the door with tweter. Is it Harman cadon?
I don't see nowhere logo harman cardon.

Your car does not have HK, it has the extra speaker package.

It beleive the US unit will work in Europe but it *will* need re-coding by a speciailist to set it to EU radio frequencies and to expect it is in the EU and then have the EU map uploaded. However I have never put a US unit in a EU car so it may be more difficult than that.
