    Default ML300-2009-W164 Ipod retrofit issues

    Hi,
yesterday I was able to collect my brand new ML300 (company car), equiped with Audio 20. This model is providing bluetooth connectivity for phones.
I've tried to order the car with the optional Ipod interface, but was told by the dealer this wasn't possible.
Did some searches on internet, and found Command Online, offering a solution.
After an email exchange with Command Online, I decided to buy the Ipod interface from them:
Comand Online Ltd :: iPod Kits :: ML, GL & R Class :: Mercedes iPod kit for Model Year 09 cars & MY10 Sprinter/Vito/Viano, except the current C, SL, S, CL and E class.
This should work, so I'm told. Unfortunately I'm having some problem getting it to work.

Thanks to your excellent site, installing it was an easy task. However, getting it to work isn't

Problems I'm having, and hoping to find answers for on this site:
    - Aux doesn't show the Ipod (Ipod Video 30GB), nor does the Ipod show the Mercedes logo, or any other signs of a connection to the car
    - With the interface cable connected in between, the bluetooth phone interface isn't working correctly. I can still use the radio to initiate the call, however the sound doesn't come through the speakers of the car, but the phone instead. Removing the cable again, and fitting the original connector back in the radio fixes the problem.
    - Also noticed that the car-key does not turn on or off the radio anymore. It's just the button only. This behavior however stays, even when I remove the special interface cable again.

    Some observations:
    - there are no fiber cables fitted in the head unit connector.

Any advise for this newbie? I would really like to get this to work, to be able to have much more music available, than mp3 discs would provide me.

    Thanks,
    Arnaud

Also, it sounds possible that the connection to the control unit from main loom is not properly in place. The grey lever needs to be rotated parallel to end of connector and then it rotates back as the connector is pushed in until it locks in place.

    Hi,
first of all thanks for the quick reply.
The label of the iPod Interface shows the following info:
    B6 782 45 29
    HW:4907 19W08
    SW: 0708 004078

    I'm in Belgium
I've checked the connectors several times, and am confident they were connected correctly.
After reading the instructions again, there might have been one step I performed incorrectly:
    • step6: Do not plug the COMAND unit back in until the IPOD interface is connected up.
    • step 8: You should now connect the head-unit back up again, and plug an IPOD in.

I had connected everything immediatly. Could this have caused the problem?

    Cheers,
    A

I doubt that connection order caused a problem.

Do you have the part number from the white box it was supplied in ?
    (not the iPod interface itself)

    Cheers

Thats the right iPod kit. It sounds like it may have a faulty loom since the microphones don't work when the loom is plugged in and the loom just passes the microphone wires through.

The alternative is that you didn't get the loom plugged in properly

I have only once seen a faulty iPod loom - so its really rare.

I'm sure Comand Online will replace !

Hi, with your confirmation that this is indeed the right model, I'll give it another try today. Maybe I did something wrong after all (order of connecting, maybe not plugging the connectors in correctly etc.)
I'll let you know. Hopefully I can get it to work. I was really looking forward to it....
And indeed, otherwise I'll contact COL, and see what can be done.
    Thanks !!

Hi good news. It's all working now.
Guess it was just a case of impatience (it took some time to get everything synced), not fitting in the connectors correctly, or the wrong sequence of connecting everything together. Anyway, it's working now, so I'm happy.
Thank you so much for the support.
