Default Need some help with installing a dvd player guys.

    Hello all, new guy here.

I have a 2008 GL450 and Im trying to install a dvd player in the car so I can watch DVD's on the command monitor while the car is parked. I dont care for the video in motion crap so I wont even go there.

This is the current configuration I have.

    2008 GL450
Command w/DVD NAV system, iPod kit with cable in the glove box
    Factory reverse camera
    Factory Rear Seat Entertainment system

All I want to be able to do is watch dvd's in the front seat while the car is parked. Whats the easiest way of doing that?

Should I retrofit a command 2.5 off of a 2010 GL (I heard these allow you to play DVD's) If so, then will all of my other features still work?

Or should I get a aux input adaptor of some sort and install a standalone dvd player? If so, could you guys point me to the right direction on which adapter or module I need?

    thanks
    Joe

You need to "persuade" the COMAND it has a TV tuner .. by having a device that looks like a TV tuner to COMAND.

    Such as this: -

AV INTERFACE MULTIMEDIA MERCEDES NTG1 NTG2 DVD TV:eBay Motors (item 230392080227 end time Nov-24-09 07:34:36 PST)

It fits on the fibre optic bus to get the sound into the system aswell as connecting to the green fakra coax connector on the COMAND.

(ensure your COMAND has a green fakra coax)

To answer this question "Should I retrofit a command 2.5 off of a 2010 GL (I heard these allow you to play DVD's) If so, then will all of my other features still work?"

NTG2.5 (hard disk COMAND) will not work with the NTG2 rear entertainment system...

    Yes, but ...

If your COMAND is a European version then
    a) If it has reversing camera you can not use this - U need to install a proper TV tuner and route the reversing camera video to the 1st AUX in on that and use the 2nd for the DVD player
    b) If not you must check it has the green Fakra

If your car is USA version then i'm not sure if any US unit has green Fakra, but they do have a video input for reversing camera on one of the other connectors and I don't know whether they support TV tuners .. (If you are in USA, do you know of any USA GL with TV ?)

I have done the fit TV tuner etc job to EU 2007ML and its all pretty simple

pps. EURO spec DVD based COMAND NTG2 (which is the one for A/B/old-C/CLK/ML/GL/R) does not play DVDs at all.
