Default Command system keeps restarting

I have a 2004 S55 with the Command 2.5 system. Just recently, I have been having a problem where the command system keeps rebooting. When I start the car, the MB logo comes up, then the warning notice shows up, then the screen goes blank, and the whole process starts over again. It keeps doing this as long as the ignition is on.
Since this is happening, I have no navigation, audio, or anything else on the Command system. Pushing the power button (or other buttons) does not seem to have any effect. The dashboard readout says that the CD player is on track 10 (probably where the CD was playing before this problem started) and says navigation is off. I was able to pop the navigation DVD out of the player in the trunk, but that had no effect.
Help!

Sadly you have something on the fibre optic bus failing. This could be the phone controller, the CD changer, voice recognition or sound-system or amplifer depending what options you have.

Are you happy disassembling bits of the car, if so, if you have this tool: -

Comand Online Ltd :: Tools :: Fibre optic looping tool for MOST bus

You can try looping out each component and when it works you have found the broken one. It is just possible that more than 1 component has failed - but I have only seem that once.

If not, you need someone with Star Diagnosis and some sense. Often (sadly) MB dealers have trouble diagnosing these faults so if you go to a MB dealer, ensure that if they want to change something that they agree they wont charge you for the part if it doesnt fix the problem.

If you are near Woking (UK !), talk to sales@comandeurope.com - they will be able to sort it for you at a sensible cost.

Richard

[PS, your car has "COMAND APS (NTG1)" in it. In S class Comand 2.5 was upto model year 02, MY03 had Comand 2.0 MOPF, MY04 onward has Comand APS with the nav drive in the boot]

I would say this is the MOST Bus SEIMENS variant. Those can and do go strange but I would tend to blame a module connection first.

Would flash the
- Head unit
- Phone module
- Audio gateway

Just to see if it resolves any problems. I found that things tended to work better with newer software.
